The Amalfi coastline is one of the most scenic areas in the country. Plan on making plenty of stops en route to stroll through the many markets or to find that perfect background for your photos. Due to the winding roads, you may experience some traffic, so expect your drive to take slightly longer than estimated.
You can take a ferry from Sorrento to the island of Capri, where you will be mesmerized by the Blue Grotto. When you’re back on dry ground, Pompeii is a must-see; explore the well-preserved ruins and imagine what life was like thousands of years ago.
Naples is the birthplace of pizza, so grab a slice in the large public square of Piazza Dante before exploring the city’s underground art scene. Visit the National Museum of Archaeology or the Sansevero Chapel Museum, where you’ll find amazingly lifelike sculptures. At night, wander around the Spaccanapoli district, a pedestrian-only area of narrow, winding streets. If you’re looking for a more relaxed way to enjoy your evening, visit the beach to watch the sunset, have a drink from one of the many bars and listen to music. While in Naples, be sure to enjoy more than the pizza; you’ll find aromatic coffee and delicious pastries, too. The Scaturchio bakery, found in the middle of town, has been a family-operated business for over 100 years. See the bakery’s Vesuvio cake on display that comes in the shape of the famed volcano. After that, make your way back to Rome, where you started your journey.
