Get your vehicle up to speed this winter.

Stay ahead of the chill and prepare your vehicle before the first blast of winter weather with this handy checklist.

  • Ensure lights are working. Make sure all your interior and exterior lights are working and your headlights are aimed correctly.
  • Check tire pressure. Underinflated tires are more prone to blowouts, poor handling and wear. Find the right tire pressure (PSI) for your car in your owner’s manual.
  • Inspect your battery. Your car battery works harder in the cold, making it difficult to start. Check your battery’s performance with a free mobile battery test1 – it’s included in your CAA Membership.
  • Check the breaks. Have your brakes checked and/or serviced to ensure they’re working properly.
  • Get winter tires. Winter tires have better grip which can give you greater control and stability on cold and icy roads.
  • Replace worn windshield wipers. Check the conditions of your blades. If they’re streaking it may be time for a new set.
  • Pack a winter emergency kit. Include items like a first aid kit, flashlight, ice scraper, small shovel, blankets, booster cables, extra batteries and phone charger.
  • Be aware of your car’s warning system. Pay attention to dashboard warning lights to ensure your car is in good condition before you head out.
  • Get your vehicle inspected. Regular maintenance is a good way to ensure your vehicle is in tip-top shape. CAA-Approved Auto Repair Services can help you find a facility near you.
  • Be prepared for the unexpected. Have peace of mind with CAA's 24/7 Roadside Assistance2.
